If a strong improvement in the appearance of the skin, wrinkle reduction and scar treatment is desired, the CO2 laser is recommended. However, a downtime of about two weeks is to be expected here. The fractional pico laser strives for a similar effect, but has a significantly shorter downtime. The pico laser is also suitable for more pigmented skin.
For a fresher complexion, the use of the alexandrite laser is recommended, which also has only a low downtime.
Another strong effect on improving the appearance of the skin, reducing wrinkles and scar treatment with little downtime is the radiofrequency treatment with the Morpheus 8.

The treatment is carried out after exposure to a numbing cream containing lidocaine and with active cold air cooling. In general, even with the strongest CO2 laser treatments, there is little to no pain.
There is slight swelling and redness after the treatment. Depending on the laser system and application strength, this only last for a few days or, as with the CO2 laser, up to two weeks. Especially with the CO2 laser, small crusts appear on the skin after the treatment, which slowly disappear and are no longer visible after about a week.
Other risks, such as burns or scarring, exist in theory, but are not to be expected with modern laser procedures.
It is important to consistently use sun protection after the treatment in order to rule out a pigmentation disorder during healing.
In particular, the use of the CO2 laser carries the risk of pigmentation disorders in more pigmented skin. For this reason, the fractional pico laser is used for skin renewal and wrinkle treatment, especially in Asia, South America and the USA. This laser leaves the top layer of skin mostly intact and generates heat in the deeper layers of the skin. This drastically reduces the risk of hyperpigmentation. Treatment with the Morpheus 8 microneedling radiofrequency device is also well suited for darker skin.
